Hammerbeams, Heritage and Health

A community initiative to restore and preserve the architecturally significant roof of St John the Baptist, a Grade I listed parish church in Badingham, Suffolk.

The project is run by volunteers from the Parochial Church Council (PCC) led by the Rector of the Upper Alde Benefice,  the Reverend Claire Kinney, and local people in Badingham.

The church roof is recognised as a prime example of a medieval, single hammerbeam trussed arrangement by historical and architectural experts. The structure is now showing major structural defects with several trusses on the point of failure. Scaffolding is in place and cannot be removed until remedial work is completedd.

Hammerbeams, Heritage and Health will not only save the roof, but also preserve the heritage of this Grade I listed church and its environs, and, support the community in religious, educational and social events and activities .
