Enriching local life

The church supports over 600 people in Badingham and neighbouring villages and has a committed regular congregation. The main area of the church (the nave) has been closed since 2019, meaning that any religious and community activities must be restricted to the area of the chancel. Previously, before the unsafe roof situation, the entire church was used regularly for village events.

The church hosts the summer village fete in the churchyard and participates in the local winter market. A church newsletter, the Badingham Echo, is delivered to every house in the village by volunteers.

The churchyard is an important refuge for wildlife and our community garden, opened in 2012, provides local people with vegetable plots and produces flowers to decorate the church. The church also provides a bookshop and a range of volunteering activities ranging from woodwork to gardening and bell ringing to organist duties.

For this project, we are partnering with Badingham Community Cafe (walks and wildlife activities), Badingham Community Council (Village Fete and gardening projects), Badingham Village Hall (creative arts activities)Enterprise Badingham (conservation workshops and talks, wildlife trails and arts activities, Suffolk Libraries (creative writing workshops), and, Suffolk Wildlife Trust (training days and conferences around managing churchyards, biodiversity and conservation skills training).

Hammerbeams, Heritage and Health will re-launch the church as a community space  for educational and social events and activities .
